A Spiritual Encounter with a Neighbor's Tree

Writer's picture: Angela HarrisAngela Harris

One afternoon, I found myself deeply connected to the natural world around me in a way that I had never experienced before. Our neighbors were cutting down a pine tree that had died, and as I watched from my window, I was drawn into an unexpected spiritual journey.

As the workers began their preparation, the usual sounds of nature seemed to pause. There was a profound stillness in the air, almost as if the world was holding its breath. I watched as they tied ropes around the dead tree, getting ready to bring it down. But the moment they began to pull, something extraordinary happened—I felt a wave of emotion surge through me.

It wasn’t the dead tree I was connecting with, but rather the living tree next to it, which had been supporting its lifeless companion. A sudden feeling of fear washed over me, not my own fear, but that of the living tree. It was as if the tree had reached out to me, sending a silent plea for help or reassurance. This tree was familiar to me; it stood just outside the window where I meditate each morning. I greet it daily, sharing my Qi and sending it positive energy. Perhaps this is why it reached out to me in its moment of distress.

As the workers continued, I could feel the living tree’s fear intensify. It was a fear of the unknown, of losing the familiar weight it had carried for so long. I could feel its anxiety, and it gripped me as if it were my own. In response, I began to send the tree waves of good source energy, focusing all my thoughts and heart on calming it. I whispered to it softly, chanting, "Everything's going to be okay."

The connection between us was palpable, as if our energies were intertwined. I continued to talk to the tree, reassuring it that everything would be alright, and slowly, I could feel its fear beginning to subside. There was a pause in the work as the crew moved to another area, giving me more time to comfort the tree.

When the workers returned and began to cut into the dead tree, the living tree remained calm. I could feel its trust in me and its acceptance of the situation. It was as though our shared energy had provided it with the strength it needed to face what was coming. I kept sending out love and positive Qi, and as the dead tree finally fell away from its embrace, I felt a profound rush of relief and happiness wash over me.

In that moment, a beautiful vision unfolded before me. I could see the rainbow colors of my Qi extending out towards the tree, wrapping it in a protective and loving embrace. I felt a sense of friendship coming back to me from the tree, a deep and wordless gratitude that filled me with joy.

Since that day, my connection with the trees outside my window has only deepened. Each morning, I greet them and share my energy, feeling their presence and acknowledging their silent companionship. The experience has taught me that we are all interconnected, sharing energy and emotions in ways we may not always understand.

I feel honored to have been there for the tree in its moment of need, and I am grateful for the friendship it offered in return. This experience has reminded me of the profound and beautiful connections we can share with the natural world, connections that go beyond words and reach into the very essence of our being.
